William Slater & John Simon, Skagit Landscape, 2000, Oil on canvas, framed, 17" x 25" x 2.5"
Formerly part of the Betty Black collection, William Slater began his career in New York as a studio assistant to pioneering contemporary artist Jasper Johns and a friend of Mark Rothko. After attending graduate school at Hunter College in NYC, he moved to La Conner in the early 1970s to be near his good friend, author Tom Robbins. He painted and lived in a shack along the river, and married a lovely young woman, Judy Brusegaard and they had a son. His work was shown in Seattle at the Woodside/Braseth Gallery.
