Hart James, Purple Mountain on High, Oil on canvas, 36" x 36" x 1.75" Harris Harvey Gallery, Seattle, WA
Hart has come to realize that few people have her background. As a child, she spent daylight hours in nature. She wandered the family farm and the adjoining farms of neighbors, more than 1500 acres of countryside. In these surroundings, she became attuned to the natural world in a way that seems more connected to earlier societies, than with our present-day world. She intuited natural processes that are just now being 'discovered' by modern scientists. At the age of ten, Hart understood the infinity of space, the insignificance of man, the transient nature of life, and the omnipotent power of the life force of nature. Hart has won various awards, including a fellowship at Vermont Studio Center. Her residencies attended vary from Oxbow to Morris Graves. She has shown across the country at Harris Harvey Gallery, William Havu Gallery, Karin Clarke Gallery, New Editions Gallery, and Llewelyn Gallery.
