SPOTLIGHT ON THE CAUSE

Thank you for joining us at the 2024 Guns N Hoses Charity Boxing event!  Since 2003, the Surviving Spouse and Family Endowment (SAFE) has been completely supported through private donations and fundraising events.  Tonight's important gathering honors our fallen but is also the primary method of raising funds to support the families of First Responders who are killed or suffer career-ending injuries in the line-of-duty.  We hope everyone here tonight will have a good time supporting this great cause.

IMMEDIATE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

One of the most important aspects of SAFE is the immediate financial assistance provided within 24-48 hours following the tragic loss of a First Responder in SAFE's 12-county coverage area. Often, insurance and other benefits can take weeks or even months to pay while the financial responsibilities for the family do not stop.

It is because of the incredible generosity of our donors, sponsors, and supporters, that Guns N Hoses has continued to grow.  This success has enhanced our ability to provide greater financial assistance to our SAFE families, with the benefit being raised to $40,000 in 2024!  Your generosity has provided nearly $800,000 in financial support to families following a line-of-duty death and for ongoing holiday benefits, as well as almost $100,000 in scholarships for First Responder children.

WHY WE'RE HERE

Sadly, we continue to suffer the losses of First Responders in our local communities.  In February 2023, our community was devastated by the death of KCPD Officer Jim Muhlbauer and his K9 partner Champ, followed by the tragic loss of Fairway Kansas Officer Jonah Oswald in August.  Fairway Officer Victor Buitrago and his best friend Jonah had signed up to box in Guns N Hoses and Jonah dropped out due to family commitments.  He was there to cheer for his best friend Victor, who said later that he "had no way of knowing when he was boxing that the very next death would be Jonah."  In February 2024, Independence Police Office Officer Cody Allen was killed attempting to aid wounded Process Server Drexel Mack.

Please keep all First Responders and their families in your thoughts and prayers.  Our communities owe them a debt of gratitude for their service and sacrifice.
