Head out for a day of golf west of Chicago, in the Oak Brook suburb of the city. Butler National Golf Club was the creation of Paul Butler, an affluent entrepreneur, philanthropist, and sportsman who was also the founder of the village of Oak Brook, Illinois.

George Fazio and his nephew Tom Fazio designed the course and it opened for play in the early 1970s. A mostly flat course, Butler National features deep bunkers, tree-lined and immaculately conditioned fairways (and greens), forced carries over water, and tons of length. Walking is encouraged but carts are permitted. The club is one of four all-male golf courses in the Chicago area.

In 1974, the Western Open began a run of 19 straight events at the Butler National Golf Club. During this time, Butler National earned its reputation as one of the most challenging golf courses in the country.

The Club at Wynstone was designed in 1989 by golf legend, Jack Nicklaus. The course weaves through the rolling hills, wetlands and mature oak stands of the property providing a memorable golf experience. His vision and respect for the natural topography of the land generated a championship golf course that is ranked as one of the "Best Courses in Illinois" by Golf Digest. Characteristics of Nicklaus' strategic design elements are very prevalent with elevated tees and large greens, protected by deep bunkers. The course underwent an extensive renovation in 2015 and is in impeccable condition.
