A portion of the funds raised through the Fort Wayne Golf Classic will be used for efforts and further research focusing on health equity and cancer disparities. ACS's Health Equity Initiative will address disparities faced by communities across Fort Wayne with a focus on the Southeast Fort Wayne community. The Health Initiative has developed a Health Equity Committee that is charged with raising awareness of the disparities the Fort Wayne community faces as it relates to cancer and cancer mortality and identify any gaps. With support from the Indiana Cancer Consortium, Anthem Foundation, and additional funders, the committee has designed a public health campaign focused on underserved communities. This goal of the campaign is to increase awareness of the need to screen for various cancers, familiarize underserved populations with screening guidelines and timeframes, and motivate those that have not yet been screened to schedule their cancer screening tests.
