Here's your chance to own a piece of artwork by Joan R. Brownstein! Joan was a professional artist who sadly passed away from Parkinson's in 2020 and left some of her art behind. She also suffered from dementia.
Joan was a graduate of Dana Hall School where she received her undergraduate degree in Fine Art and
Architecture from Cornell University and her MFA at Hunter College. Joan's early paintings involved pouring layers paint on canvas, evoking themes of landscapes. Joan would later teach art at Harvard and write extensively about art. Later in life, as Parkinson's disease impacted her dexterity and ability to paint, Joan changed her artistic techniques and began focusing on photography and paintings used cut and layered paper and colored pencil.
This beautiful framed painting by Joan is a giclee painting. In its most basic definition, giclee is a French term for "to spray" or "to squirt". It references the process that an inkjet printer uses to reproduce fine art or photography to create individual copies of the original piece. It is important to note that not all inkjet prints are giclee prints. With giclee printing, you can expect a higher quality product that lasts longer than your run-of-the-mill inkjet prints and there are certain criteria that must be met for a print to be considered a giclee.
