3 bottles Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou two from 1982, 1976. Dating back to the start of the 13th century, Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou is one of the oldest estates in the St. Julien region of the Medoc. The wines from this estate are designated as one of the 15 Deuxiemes Cru (Second Growth), ranking after only the 5 Premier Cru French wines. The word "beaucaillou" translates to "beautiful stones". The gravelly soils of the vineyards are covered with large stones, holding heat at night, creating one of the best terroirs in Bordeaux for growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot, the wine is full-bodied, velvety and concentrated; it is rich, lively, with a deep core of fruit. This is a wine that ages extremely well. Ratings for this vary from 92 up to 98 for the 1982 vintage.
