Because of the soils and climate, Syrah grapes dominate the Northern Rhone region. This lot has two highly-rated Syrahs from the Northern Rhone: a 2018 J. L. Chave Selection, St. Joseph Offerus, a Syrah blend (rated 93) and a 2018 M. Chapoutier Crozes-Ermitage Les Varonniers, (rated 94), a Syrah with lovely freshness. These wines are big, bold, and spicy. The Southern Rhone has different soils and a milder climate where Grenache, and Mourvedre thrive/ From the Southern Rhone, a 2021 Famille Perrin Chateauneuf-du-Pape Les Sinsards, which is soft, elegant, with good acidity (rated 94), a blend of Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah and a 2020 Chateau de Beaucastel Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet de Beaucastel. These are big, bold, spicy wines with firm tannins in their youth but which age beautifully. These wines are a great accompaniment to meats and cheeses.
