From the Pauillac region of the Medoc, Chateau Clerc Milon was purchased by Baron Philippe de Rothschild (owner of Chateau Mouton Rothschild) in 1970. The estate was classified as a 4er Cru, a very good wine, but under the Rothschild ownership, the vineyards have been renovated and the winery facilities improved to create superb wines. The 1997 vintage is 53% Cabernet, 33% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Petit Verdot. It is a dark ruby/purple color, a sweet, smoky, black currant and cherry-scented nose. With a silky texture, this is a nicely-layered, rich, medium-bodied Pauillac.
