Crocheted christening dresses were something that Barbara Laube, Curative's Home & Community Specialist, started making over 20 years ago. It began with her sister's first grandchild. Barbara's sister then requested her to make them for her friends. She enjoys these projects since they are small, and the patterns keep her interested. Barbara keeps a couple of them ready in case her sister comes "shopping", as she calls it.
Barbara has been crocheting for over 50 years. She started with a poncho that she saw, and then she found a pattern that her mother-in-law at the time helped her get started with. Barbara has been pretty much figuring it out on her own ever since. She also knits (self-taught) and likes to alternate between the two.
Mainly, Barbara works on baby blankets, booties, and sweaters, and keeps them in bins for when someone she knows has a new baby. She thinks that homemade items are so special, and can be handed down for generations.
This item includes a christening gown, a pair of booties, and a hat, all decorated with ornate flowers.
