ARTIST STATEMENT
For me, making Art is fun! Creating things is fun!
My body of work can be a bit eclectic. I love to explore and experiment with various techniques utilizing different tools to create a piece; so there may be a landscape here, an abstract there, a bavarian pretzel headpiece or dancing teacup for the stage. Sometimes I am driven by music, sometimes it's to capture the colors I saw , sometimes it's for theater, sometimes it's because I just want to try "that"! These past couple years I've been drawn to the forests I have had the privilege to visit as we camp our way through the seasons. I am in love with the landscapes of Pennsylvania and New England.
ARTIST BIO
I graduated from Penn State with a BS in Horticulture, raised 3 incredible women, and worked as a floral designer before retiring and moving to Dover, PA where I have my own small studio space at last. Having studied art in high school and college in my early days, my creative juices really took off in the mid 2000s when I worked as a costumer for local theater and high school productions. It was challenging to create 3D art that moved on stage! (Some credits include "The Producers", "Beauty and The Beast", and "Red and the Wolf".)
Making art is fun…except when it isn't Sometimes art is a process a way to deal with difficult emotions, a way to express something sometimes it is joy, or light or beauty… sometimes it is pain, shame, sadness, or anger…
Fun; It was too easy for me to say it is all fun sometimes it's more it can be a deeper journey into the layers that lie hidden deep within us and sometimes allows us to safely shine a light into those dark places Sometimes art lets us heal the wounds that no one sees It can express emotions, capture memories, draw you into a place or a time or a feeling So yes, making art is fun but sometimes it's not sometimes it's purging sometimes it's remembering sometimes its healing sometimes it's shouting silently
Why do I make art? On any given day it could be for any reason and for me, that is enough.
If any of this art makes you feel something, anything; then we have been successful.
