ARTIST BIO

Em Castronuovo was born in Morristown, New Jersey in 1996. They received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from New York University in 2015, and continued to live in New York City until 2023. Castronuovo has exhibited work in New York, including at The Commons and The Rosenberg Galleries in Manhattan and The Living and The Woods Galleries in Brooklyn. They are also a part of the DIY art scene in Brooklyn, gathering with fellow artists to create accessible shows that immerse the viewers and foster community. Castronuovo is currently living in York, Pennsylvania, where they attended York Suburban Middle and High Schools.

Castronuovo's practice explores the commonalities of emotion, thought process, and intuition between all humans. Most recently, they are focusing on the experience of nostalgia by collapsing singular linear memories into one collective memory to investigate non-linear time. A recurring question Castronuovo considers is, what is the
relationship between intuition and our internal and external worlds? Everything is everything. Working intuitively, almost never having a set plan when beginning, they create a representation of the subconscious. Writing is also central to their practice. Castronuovo primarily works with paint, collage materials, and textiles, specializing in installation art, to explore these concepts.
