"Can You See Him Now" by Virgil Holmes
"Can You See Him Now" is a limited edition mixed-media sculpture 7" tall x 9" in diameter composed of cold cast bronze resin mounted on a book and a wood base. The sculpture depicts two Carolina Wrens learning to use binoculars and looking for the returning birdwatcher. Each sculpture is individually cast, hand-painted, and assembled by the artist.
Virgil Holmes has the privilege to observe native wildlife interacting with each other and their natural environments. His are is designed to capture an ongoing action, in contrast to a static image, and cause the viewer to imagine the rest of the story. He applies bronze powders or other finishes to his work to mimic high-end, lost-wax bronze sculptures and their applied patinas. His studio is located at his residence on a 400-acre farm east of Dover, Delaware.
