"The Swimmers," by Montana artist Rudy Autio is an original monotype print made in 1995. The figures, positions and line quality depicted in the print are evocative of Autio's well-known ceramic vessels shown in museums and galleries across the world.
Best known for his sculptural work in clay, Rudy Autio co-founded the nationally-respected Archie Bray Foundation in Helena in 1952. He then went on to start the ceramics department at the University of Montana in 1957, where he taught for 28 years, retiring as Professor Emeritus.
Autio's most-seen work is the large bronze grizzly bear sculpture positioned at the west entrance of the Oval at the University of Montana.
This unique piece is a gift of the Autio Family Trust.
