Eleanor King Hookham, White Roses In A Gold Plate, 1992
Watercolor, acrylic, gouache
22 x 30 in. (f. 31 x 39 in.)

Artist, educator, and EAM Founder Eleanor King Hookham (1909-2003), also known as El King, had a long-lasting artistic career of 88 years. Her works were an international success as she had various solo exhibitions from New York City to Paris, France. Hookham's works often consisted of landscapes and cityscapes. Some pieces were painted in a loose style, while others were done stylistically and realistically. In 1946, Hookham moved to Elmhurst with her husband Robert E. Hookham. She was a fierce advocate for the arts, and kept the dream of the Elmhurst Art Museum alive for five decades, then welcoming visitors at the grand opening of the Elmhurst Art Museum building in 1997.
