The high bidder on this item will take home a truly one of a kind Shaker-style bench hand-crafted by our own Fr. Schroeder.
It is constructed from lumber that came from a wild black cherry tree that stood for many years on the property of parishioners Gerry and Carol Smith. After a storm, the tree fell and Gerry cut it into logs that were eventually processed at a sawmill into rough lumber that sat in his shed for about ten years. Fr. Schroeder used a jointer and planer to make the lumber dimensional and then employed mortise and tenon joinery and pocket screws to assemble this bench.
It is finished with coat of Danish oil to highlight the natural beauty of the wood and grain. The tannins in the cherry wood will continue to darken and produce rich colors for years to come as it is exposed to air and sunlight.
Bid on this special piece of furniture that is truly local, handmade, and unique!
