Your in the Reverse Auction will help continue one of the unique artist residency programs of the Arts Center, the Exhibition Artists-in-Residence (ExAIR) program. While most residencies focus on the creation of new work, ExAIR is all about artists sharing their creative process with school groups and the public through workshops and open studios. Proceeds from the Reverse Auction will assist in bringing in artists, supplies, and more. For that, we say "thank you!"

Using her artwork to also enhance interdisciplinary explorations, Frank was chosen to be a Senior Research Fellow at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She was the first artist/collaborator to be given this distinction. Frank is an ARTspace artist who was most recently featured in the 2017 One & Only: Gifts Made By Hand exhibition.

TE+ND Rover (Leg) (wall-hung ceramic and brass, 9.5 x 6.25 x 1.25 in.). Created by artist Marnia Johnston of Concord, CA. Johnston is a sculptor and interdisciplinary instigator collaborating with engineers, biologists, programmers, and tinkerers. She creates projects exploring what Donna Haraway calls the "ideological struggle between life and social science." Johnston's work does this by incorporating themes surrounding mass production, ecology, and biological processes by using robotics, ceramics, and various other media.
Johnston has been awarded the Visions from the New California Award, a James Irvine Foundation Fellowship, and her sculptures and drawings have been exhibited widely. Johnston was a John Michael Kohler Arts Center Arts/Industry Artist in the Pottery in 2016.
Handmade Wooden Bowl with food-safe finish (exotic Yellowheart and Goncalo Alues wood, 91/4 x 9 1/4 x 8 1/2 in.). Created by artist Bob Newton of Sheboygan, WI. Newton has been a hobby woodworker since high school in Frankfurt, Germany, but it wasn't until six years ago that he found his passion in wood turning. To date, he has made over 2,500 bowls, none identical to the last. What makes his bowls unique is his ability to combine both domestic and exotic species to create beautiful patterns. Newton is an award-winning Midsummer Festival of the Arts artist who has been participating since 2012.

This large format wheat-paste print was created in collaboration with area schools during Caswell?s ExAIR residency in the The ARTery.

Steel Suspended Shape Sculpture (steel, for indoor or outdoor display, 26 x 25 1/2 x 18 in.) was created by artist David Allen of Sheboygan, WI. Allen has been working with metal since 1994. He is a journeyman tool and die maker at Alaark Tooling & Automation in Sheboygan, WI. Stitched, 18 (fused glass bowl, 16 1/2 in. round x 2 1/4 in. tall) was created by artist Debi McCullough of Marshfield, WI. The bowl was created with colorful transparent glass, frit, and stringers and took four distinct firings to create its final form.

Guests prepare nineteenth-century dishes on a wood-burning stove and over an open-hearth fire just as Mrs. Wade did more than 150 years ago. Water Lily (ceramic, 9 individual pieces measuring 5 1/2 x 6 x 1 in. ea. and arranged in a grid pattern). Created by artist Lesley Baker of Indianapolis, IN. Baker was an Arts/Industry Pottery Artist in 2005 and most recently an exhibiting artist at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in 2014.
Cows and Flowers (serigraph, 25 x 19 1/2 in.). was created by artist Schomer Lichtner of Milwaukee, WI. Lichtner was a muralist who created many large works in public and private buildings as part of the 1930's Treasury Relief Art Project, the Public Works Art Project, and the Federal Works Progress Administration art program. One of his murals can be viewed today in the Sheboygan Post Office. Schomer worked in his own regionalist style, dealing with the virtues of rural, middle-class life, but was among the first generation of Wisconsin artists to break from the tradition of German academies. Schomer's best known creations will always be recognized as part of the Modernist movement with imagery that includes elements of whimsy and humor, a sense of the potency of color, freedom, and energy. Two of his trademark motifs, black and white patterned Holstein cows and slender ballet dancers, have been recurrent themes. His dogged production, longevity, and positive nature made him and his work distinctive and much loved.

Richter-O'Connell is an award-winning Midsummer Festival of the Arts artist, an ARTspace artist, and has taught countless jewelry courses at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center over the years.

Enjoy this set of three vintage exhibition announcement cans from JMKAC's 1968 Media in a Supermarket exhibition located in a former supermarket space at 710 S. 14th Street here in Sheboygan. These exhibition announcements are a great momento of the times since they were created only six years after Andy Warhol created his famous Campbell's Soup Cans.

Bair is an emeritus professor of art and was the director of the School of Art at Illinois Wesleyan University for three decades. Bair has exhibited widely over the years, including locations as far away as Japan. Bair's work is currently represented by the Edgewood Orchard Gallery in Wisconsin; the Marshall Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ; the Duane Reed Gallery in St. Louis, MO; and the Haen Gallery in Asheville, NC. Bair is an ARTspace Artist.
Nuno felted cape (silk, merino wool, and synthetic fibers; size small) was created by artist Kati Fritz-Jung of Sheboygan, WI. Fritz-Jung spent sixteen years studying and creating wearable designs made from natural and synthetic fibers. Most recently she has focused on nuno felting (fabric felting). Fritz-Jung has always believed that wearable art is a personal expression of one's unique personality. She especially enjoys custom orders as it allows her to blend her personal style with that of her customers. Fritz-Jung has taught nuno felting at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center and also gives classes from her home. You can find her art at various galleries in Wisconsin and Michigan, and can directly contact her if interested in custom orders or classes.

Glass Brick (glass, 8 ¼ x 4 ¼ x 3 1/4 in.). Created by artist Beth Lipman of Sheboygan Falls, WI. Lipman has received numerous awards including a USA Berman Bloch Fellowship, Pollock Krasner Grant, Virginia Groot Foundation Grant, and a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant. She recently completed One Portrait of One Man, a sculptural response to Marsden Hartley for the Weisman Art Museum (MN). Lipman has exhibited her work internationally at such institutions as the Ringling Museum of Art (FL), ICA/MECA (ME), RISD Museum (RI), Milwaukee Art Museum (WI), Gustavsbergs Konsthall (Sweden) and the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum (DC). Her work has been acquired by numerous museums including the North Carolina Museum of Art, Brooklyn Museum of Art (NY), Smithsonian American Art Museum (DC), and the Corning Museum of Glass (NY).
Beth Lipman was an Arts/Industry Artist in the Pottery in 2003 and has been an exhibiting artist at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center.
