Margaux's Most Blossomed Bottle!
Château Margaux 1986 (1 imperial, owc)
Margaux, Bordeaux
We are proud to feature an array of Château Margaux's quality wines, particularly those that have stood the test of time. Château Margaux 1986 is the estate's flagship wine under Paul Pontallier. With a near-perfect score of 97 points from The Wine Advocate, this wine is housed in a large-format bottle, which allows the wine to age particularly well.
"With several hours of aeration, the aromatics become striking, with notes of smoke, toast, crème de cassis, mineral, and white flowers. Very full-bodied, with high but sweet tannin, great purity, and a very masculine, full-bodied style, this wine should prove nearly immortal in terms of its aging potential."-Robert Parker, Bordeaux Book (4th Edition), The Wine Advocate
This bottle was bought near-release in the late 1980s and has laid undisturbed in its original wood case in Stephen A. Kaplan's private wine cellar since that time. The wood case was opened for the first time ever in August 2017; the imperial has a very high level and a sound-appearing cork, and its appearance was rated "excellent."
Generously contributed by Stephen A. Kaplan
