From 1977 to his passing in 1980, André Mentzelopoulos transformed Château Margaux through a restoration of the vineyard and mansion, thereby reinstating the former reputation the Château had been known for in its beginnings. His daughter, Corinne Mentzelopoulos, took on the role of manager of the property throughout the 1980s, eventually becoming the sole shareholder and owner in 2003.

There was no doubt that we needed a spectacular vintage to represent our Honored Guest in the live auction, and here it is! With a perfect 100-point rating from Robert Parker, this Château Margaux 1996 is "blessed with breathtaking delineation and freshness on the nose, understated at first and then blossoming with mineral-infused black fruit, hints of blueberry, crushed stone, and violet. The palate is perfectly balanced with filigree tannin and perfect acidity-a wine where everything seems to be in its right place." This First Growth truly "offers everything you desire."

Margaux's reputation has not once wavered since the Mentzelopoulos' supervision, and tonight's Lead Auctioneer, Michael Davis, notes that the 1996 is widely recognized as one of the greatest wines under Corinne Mentzelopoulos' reign. With Corinne's daughter, Alexandra Petit-Menzelopoulos, in attendance tonight, we are delighted to offer these six magnums to you!
