Signature pieces designed specially for the National MS Society by local MS client and volunteer, Sandy Wurzburger .

Sandy's Story:
I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 21 years ago. It started with Optic Neuritis/blindness in my left eye. Thank goodness, steroids brought back my eyesight! I was completely stunned and scared when I got diagnosed. Since 1996, I have gone on several different MS drugs, tried homeopathic treatments, as well as experimented with diets, exercise and other therapy options. Although the disease is different for every person diagnosed, throughout the years, I have found that sleep, stress management combined with healthy diet, regular exercise and a positive attitude are the most important factors to manage with MS.
When diagnosed, I searched for answers, information, and resources for support. I quickly learned about the National MS Society and joined a support group. I quickly learned about several options including doing swim therapy sponsored by the society close to my home in Cleveland, Ohio. I also gained incredible support from my family including my husband who has been a board member for a combined 15 plus years in both Cleveland and Charlotte.
In both cities I have been a huge advocate of the walk MS event and was the captain of Team Sandy, always with the goal of being the largest team and biggest fundraiser. A huge breakthrough came when I heard about a truly incredible event called the Gatsby Gala. I immediately became a volunteer. Being on the planning committee and attending the event is something I look forward to and has meant so much to me.
Over the years one thing that has never wavered is all the love and support I get from family and friends! It truly keep me going through some of the hurdles in dealing with the disease. I might be riding a scooter, however I never lose my zeal to be an active participant at a finish line, committee meeting or just helping in any way possible to rid the world of MS!
