On February 17, 1864, Hunley attacked and sank the USS Housatonic in Charleston's outer harbor. This marked the first time in history a submarine had sunk an enemy vessel. Soon after the attack the Hunley sank, killing all eight of her crew. This framed print by Tom Gallo commemorates the men of the Hunley who lost their lives on that day.
