An original creation of horticultural art all created locally in the Milwaukee area by Michael Yanny. All the plants were developed in this area for our climate. Summer Reflection Viburnum was selected in the mid 1990's by Michael Yanny at Johnson's Nursery, Inc., from an open pollinated seedling of Viburnum mongolicum. Viburnum x rhytidophylloides 'Alleghany' is suspected of being the pollen source.
Summer Reflection_ Viburnum was selected for its shiny, dark green, 4" long by 2" wide leathery leaves. Its foliage quality is outstanding. Fall color can be a rich wine red color if conditions are right.
Flowering and fruiting characteristics are similar to Viburnum lantana. Creamy-white flat-topped flower clusters appear in May followed by attractive clusters of fruit in August that change from yellow to red before maturing to black.
This cultivar will grow to approximately 9' tall and 8' wide with an oval outline.
