The 2017 American Girl doll of the year, Gabriela, and accompanying book, depicts an African-American girl from Philadelphia. Gabriela is a dancer and a poet who runs a sandwich shop in the City of Brotherly Love.

Gabriela has warm brown eyes that open and close, and long, brown curly hair. She has a huggable cloth body, and her movable head and limbs are made of smooth vinyl.

Gabriela comes with her book, plus her performance-inspired casual outfit: a cropped purple sweater with silver dream graphic, a soft turquoise tank top, a fitted pair of dark-blue jeggings to keep her comfy, a pair of purple shoes with turquoise straps and a pink double headband.

Gabriela is the latest in the line of American Girl dolls that depict characters of diverse backgrounds and interests. She's described as a "true creative talent" who uses poetry to break down barriers and overcome her personal challenge of stuttering.
