"Tiny Chairs" by Porter Halyburton Cerarmics. Tiny ceramic ladder-back chairs with matching coffee table.

Over his lifetime, Porter has dabbled in various art forms including drawing, stained glass, and carving. He took his first pottery class in Atlanta, GA in 1974, studying under Rick Berman. In the 1980's at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI Porter studied with Jay Lacouture. Following his retirement from 20 years of active duty in the US Navy, followed by 20 years as a civilian faculty member of the Naval War College, Porter moved to Greensboro, NC and began taking classes under various instructors at Arts Alliance in Greensboro's Cultural Arts Center where he continues to work today.

Porter has taken numerous workshops and classes at The Penland School of Crafts, studying under Cynthia Bringle, Gay Smith, Sunshine Cobb and Susan Fagin. At Arrowmont, he studied under Lana Wilson. Porter studied under Adam
Field and Alex Matisse at East Fork Pottery. In addition Porter has attended several Utilitarian Clay Conferences at Arrowmont and several NC Clay Conferences in Asheboro, NC.

Porter enjoys making functional pottery using both hand building and wheel throwing techniques. He also enjoys collaborating on raku and wood firings. His work is available at GreenHill Gallery for NC Artists in Greensboro and at an
