Beautifully restored chair from The Barnabas Network. Chair was selected from Barnabas by local artist Rod Cooper, and recovered thanks to the kindness of Linda Knight Carr of Knight Carr Interiors, who donated fabulous designer velvet; and David Farris of Murphy's Upholstery, who recovered this chair and refinished the legs.
About the Artist: Reared by artistic parents, Rod Cooper's formal art education began with a summer at The NC School of the Arts during high school. In 1973, he received a BFA from UNC-Chapel Hill with a double major in Studio Art and Art History. He did graduate studies in Art History at UNC Chapel Hill, and then lived in NYC and Washington, DC with graduate studies at American University, Smithsonian Museum, and classes with Clement Conger, former Director of the State Department collections. Upon returning to North Carolina, he became Director of The Firehouse Gallery, in Alamance County; served on the Board of directors for The Alamance County Arts Council, and taught drawing and painting classes at Alamance County Community College. His first adult two-man exhibition was at Green Hill Center for NC Art in 1975. His work in the home furnishings industry and decorative arts began at The Alderman Company in High Point, as a set designer, Graphic Designer and Creative Consultant, and finally Creative Director. In 1988, Rod co-founded Cooper Cockerham, Inc., dba C2; a marketing group doing branding, art direction, collateral, advertising, printing, data services and fulfillment. He was President and Creative Director (and later Creative Director emeritus) until early retirement in 2010, when he began painting again, coming full circle back to his roots.
