LITTLE BLACK DRESS
by Suzanne Cohan-Lange
Cast paper & mixed media 36"x 12"x 53"
These "Little Black Dresses" are part of a room sized, multi-media installation of 100 sculptures, video and poetry. It's a study in self-expression, fashion, the body, the self and society. Women, as creatures of hope, seasonally reinvent ourselves along the larger timeline of history. They arise from the fear of becoming caught in the myths of our own beliefs, the magic and folly of multi-tasking, and the power of our own resiliency. We present a chorus of voices.
Suzanne Cohan-Lange, sculptor and curator, is Chair Emeritus of the Inter-Arts Dept. at Columbia College, Chicago Chicago. Although Suzanne has worked in steel, resin, wood, paper, aluminum and most recently, cast glass, her work is always figurative, often political and always a metaphor for the human condition. Suzanne is the co-owner, with husband, Richard Lange, of Blink Contemporary Arts Gallery in Michigan City, IN.
