Enjoy a round of golf for 4 with carts, courtesy of the Downers Grove Park District's Golf Club, operated by the Downers Grove Park District. This 9 hole / par 36 golf course offers a challenging golf experience for average to higher skill levels. In addition, this scenic course holds a significant place in history.
The golf course was established in 1892 when Charles Blair MacDonald, persuaded thirty of his Chicago Club colleagues to contribute ten dollars each to design and construct a nine-hole golf course. The site chosen to build the first Chicago Golf Club was a 60 acre stock farm owned by A. Haddow Smith, who was a Lanarkshire golfer who had immigrated from Musselburgh, Scotland where the game of golf was first played in 1774. When Smith heard of Macdonald's plan, he offered his land as the location for the golf course. Read more about this interesting historic beginning at dgparks.org.
