Vintage Dutch Zaandam Striking Wall Clock
This famous Holland made pendulum wall clock from 1972 strikes the hour and single strikes
the ½ hour. The Zaandam wall clock was the most prolific and famous Dutch design and was
produced beginning in the late 17th century not long after Dutchman Christiaan Huychan
invented the pendulum clock. The name Zaandam comes from the town in the Netherlands
where the clock was first produced. A version of the clock is still produced today.
The motto on the clock is "Nu Elck Syn-Sin." This is "old
Dutch," and translates literally as "Now each its sense." It
means, roughly, "Now to each his own" or "Now give
every man what he wants [or needs].
This clock was completely cleaned and refurbished in
June of 2018 by the people at Tick Tock Clock in Palatine,
Illinois. The works and finish of the clock are in excellent
condition as documented in the accompanying
photographs
