Jewelry from Mexico: supporting Esperanza de Cuernavaca
This necklace was hand-made by parents of children who attend Esperanza de Cuernavaca, an elementary school for indigenous children in Mexico. The school serves about 65 children and their parents, who live in abject poverty. The families make a living as artisans, painting pottery and creating jewelry. As one child said, "If we don't sell, we don't eat." Their average income is $4-5 a day. The school provides education that would otherwise be impossible to obtain, as well as food, safety, and and a sense of pride in who they are and hope in what they can become.
