What is the Homeless Shelter Urgent Needs Shopping Club?
Founded in 2018, the Homeless Shelter Urgent Needs Shopping Club is a dedicated group of volunteers from Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark on a mission to provide essential household items to homeless residents.
HOUSING SERVICES
Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark provides housing for these Eight Homeless (emergency, transitional and permanent) facilities:
- Canaan House - Jersey City, NJ
- Franciska Residence - Jersey City, NJ
- Good Sheperd - Newark, NJ
- Hope House Emergency Family Shelter - Jersey City, NJ
- St. Bridget's Residence - Newark, NJ
- St, Jude's Oasis - Jersey City, NJ
- St. Lucy's Emergency Shelter - Jersey City, NJ
- St. Rocco's Emergency Family Shelter - Newark, NJ
Why We Need Your Help
The needs of our Homeless Shelters, Transitional and Permanent Homes for those suffering from Housing insecurity are significant.
Fortunately, last year Catholic Charities was able to provide 73,700 nights of shelter and 144,400 plus meals for children, women, men, seniors, veterans, and those with HIV.
With your generous help, we can do even more this year!
HOW THE SHOPPING CLUB WORKS
We raise money from generous and caring friends in our community like you.
Donations are collected, totaled and will determine how much our volunteers can purchase for Items that our shelters need, including: Bedding/Warm Blankets & Linens, Cleaning supplies, Warm Clothing (Coats, Boots, Hats, Mittens), Electronics, Kitchen Items, toiletries, and more.
On the shopping day, our volunteers meet at Walmart in Kearny (date/time to be determined). Volunteers shop together for items throughout Walmart.
Volunteers purchase items with funds raised from this initiative. Purchases are packed up in vehicles and volunteers deliver items to shelters and other facilities.
HELP CATHOLIC CHARITIES & Our Eight New Jersey Housing Facilities in two very important ways.
1. Make a Generous Donation
100% of your tax-deductible donation (minus credit card processing fees) will be used towards the purchase of essential items for our eight facilities. Note: You can increase your total giving by clicking YES to checkbox "I would also like to apply my credit card processing fees to my donation."
2. Join other Volunteers to Shop
Shop and deliver essential items directly to our facilities and to our clients that need them most especially during the colder months! The date and time of our Shopping Day will be determined once we can raise enough funds to make it possible.
