The Celebration of Courage 2021 will be presented as a live, virtual fundraising event on Thursday, June 10th at 6 pm CST on this website and on the Ascend Justice YouTube Channel! This year's event will feature Natasha Trethewey, the 19th Poet Laureate of the United States (2012-2014), a Pulitzer Prize winner and author of the memoir Memorial Drive (2020), which was named a Washington Post Top 10 Best Book of 2020, an NPR Best Book of 2020, and a New York Times Critics' Top Book of 2020. The event will also feature stories from the clients who have been impacted by our life-changing work, our 2021 Champions of Justice, and a special introduction to our new Incarcerated Survivors Project.

The Celebration of Courage is Ascend Justice's annual spring fundraiser where we pay tribute to the over 1,000 survivors and families whose lives have been touched by Ascend Justice this year and to the loyal supporters like you who have made that work possible.

1. Visit this page - ascendjustice.givesmart.com - and sign up to make a donation, purchase one of our Celebration at Home snack boxes or drinks, or enter our raffle (more information to come soon!) ahead of the virtual event on Thursday, June 10th at 6 p.m.

2. On June 10th at 6 p.m. CST, grab your Celebrate at Home snacks and Spirit of Justice cocktail, wine, or whatever you'd like to drink while enjoying the event and join us here to watch the entire live stream or, if you prefer, click on the embedded video to live stream on our YouTube channel.

3. Watch the official video portion of the program beginning at 6:05 p.m. CST where you will hear from our staff about their work, watch the stories of the clients we've served this year, meet our 2021 Champions of Justice and hear from US Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and author, Natasha Trethewey.
