Fund-A-Need: Improving Accessibility

This year, our Fund-A-Need cause is to improve the accessibility of our programming and our building, to continue to offer broad access to our classes and cultural events, supporting a greater audience. As we prepare to welcome you simultaneously in-person and online, we need to invest in new technology. Additionally, to welcome all community members in our building regardless of any physical limitations and to remain compliant with state guidelines, we need to replace the elevator in our new home.

Over the past year, AFMSP developed virtual programming to keep our community engaged throughout the pandemic. These online classes and events extended our reach, attracting artists, scholars and participants from all over the United States, Canada, France and Martinique. Students continue their French studies from anywhere- no matter if they were in a sunny locale for the winter, were based in another state or Greater Minnesota. As we look forward to more in-person events and classes, we recognize the importance of keeping all of our members- whether near or far- engaged. Hybrid format classes are underway, and even our gala tonight has both in-person and virtual participants! To maintain the quality of our programs, AFMSP needs to invest in tools to maintain the quality of our programs, such as Zoom subscriptions, hybrid technologies like the Meeting Owl Pro cameras which have been tested in some of our classes, as well as upgrades to our computers and Smart Boards. Your gift today will enrich our events and classes with enhanced presentation abilities, to better celebrate the global diversity of the French language and keep our community connected.

When we purchased our new building, we knew the elevator was nearing the end of its "useful life". Last month, in the required annual inspection of the elevator, we learned that due to changes to code in the State of Minnesota, our elevator is no longer compliant and repairs must be made now. While the elevator is currently functional, we have no choice but to move forward with this expense at this time. We know this is an investment in our new home and in the future of our organization. We have a calendar full of art exhibitions scheduled for La Galerie and in-person summer camps and classes starting in just a couple of weeks! Your donations will assure that AFMSP can welcome everyone to these programs.
