Meet The Cundiff Family
On October 12, 2016, Kathy & Eric Cundiff had triplets that arrived 4 months premature. They were immediately admitted to the NICU and required multiple procedures and surgeries. After 134 days, Cameron and Layla were finally brought home for the first time. Tragically Matthew was laid to rest at just 4 months old. Both Layla and Cameron required oxygen, additional surgeries, g-tube feeding, PT, OT, and speech therapy. Layla and Cameron continued to grow, gain strength and on April 30th, 2018 Kathy and Eric welcomed a new baby boy, William, who was born healthy and without any disabilities.
The family saw progress in Layla & Cameron before life threw them another awful experience. In January 2019 Eric found a mass on Layla's abdomen. The next day they were given the devastating news that Layla was diagnosed with a rare liver cancer known as Hepatoblastoma, a 1 in 1 million occurrence for children, and tests revealed it was Stage IV as it spread to her lungs. Layla immediately began intensive chemo treatments to shrink her tumor, and In April 2019 she had her tumor, half her liver, and gallbladder removed, giving her a fighting chance. She continued extensive chemo treatments after surgery, and in August of 2023 she celebrated 4 years cancer free. Cameron also has uphill battles as he was diagnosed with Epilepsy and Cerebral Palsy. He is on seizure medication and requires braces on his feet/ankles and will most likely need tendon surgery in the next two years. Both Cameron and Layla also have Autism and are nonverbal. They continue to work on communication using an augmentive communication device.
The Cundiff family needs our help with the long term care and quality of life of their children, Layla & Cameron who will require lifelong therapy and assistance.
