We will also recognize, Honorary Chairs, Louarn and Alan Sorkin for their years of service and philanthropy to so many organizations in San Diego. Join us as we raise funds at Women of Dedication 2024 to help finalize the Rady Center Project in Downtown San Diego. We hope to break ground in 2025 adding 200-300 beds for those experiencing homelessness including many other much needed services. At the event, we will be honoring Mr. and Mrs. Rady for their legacy of service to The Salvation Army and are asking you to come alongside them to help finalize this project. We are so thankful to the Rady's and to you for the opportunity to help people in San Diego!
The new Rady Center is made possible by a generous donation from Ernest and Evelyn Rady and a long-term innovative partnership with local nonprofit Wakeland Housing and Development Corporation catalyzing on the value of the land The Salvation Army owns downtown and replacing the current Centre City Corps with a nearly 200,000 square foot state of the art facility. The community and neighborhood friendly Rady Center will expand community services already provided, such as food assistance and senior meals, and will more than triple shelter and support services to get men and women off the streets and on a path to successful independent living or into permanent supportive housing. Along with interim and long-term transitional housing, the Rady Center will also offer bridge housing for men and women exiting rehab programs as well as permanent supportive and affordable housing units for rent. The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary (SAWA) will be honoring 12 accomplished, philanthropic women who were chosen for their long volunteer service and commitment to our community at its 58th Women of Dedication Luncheon, Dedicated Hearts, Devotion to Service, on April 26, 2024, at the Marriott Marquis San Diego.
This is the Auxiliary's signature fundraising event. Founded in the 1950s, the Auxiliary supports The Salvation Army's social service programs through fundraising, donations, and hands-on volunteer efforts, helping those in crisis to heal, to develop emotionally and spiritually, and to learn new skills which promote self-sufficiency and transform lives for the better. Eighty-three cents of every dollar go to The Salvation Army programs in San Diego County. Proceeds from this luncheon will fund local Salvation Army programs and help finalize fundraising efforts for The Salvation Army Rady Center. Groundbreaking for the new Rady Center, which will be located downtown San Diego, is scheduled to break ground in 2025.
The Peggy Matthews Legacy Award will be presented to Ernest and Evelyn Rady for their years of commitment to The Salvation Army as well as the entire San Diego community. Honorary Chairs are Louarn and Alan Sorkin known for their commitment to The Salvation Army and many other organizations. The Women's Auxiliary is proud to honor these great community leaders.
Prior to the luncheon, there will be shopping at exclusive boutiques offering jewelry, clothing, accessories, gift items and more, with 25% of proceeds donated to The Salvation Army. The presentation of the honorees will include musical performances by Mackenzie Cartmill and Bryan Verhoye and the San Diego Master Chorale.
