It takes years, if not a lifetime, to master the art of blending. Is it a science, a process that
yields repeatedly replicated results? Or is it art, something just beyond conscious
reasoning? Great winemakers often employ a combination of technical analysis and
intuition. Over time, historic wine producing regions have developed the basis for
renowned blends. The adage goes, "what grows together, goes together." Grape varieties
that adapt to the same climate generally make good blending partners and there's no
better benchmark Bordeaux. Either Cabernet or Merlot based, these blends have served
as the gold standard for winemakers to model across the world.
Longtime supporters and dear friends MARK & TARA REIN have brought you an
incredible lot showcasing the science and art of expectational CABERNET and MERLOT
BASED BLENDS from world renowned producers.
Nestled in the foothills near Bolgheri, ORNELLAIA lies just a few kilometers from the
Mediterranean coast. A cuvée of CABERNET SAUVIGNON, Merlot, Cabernet Franc &
Petit Verdot, Orenllaia is a faithful expression of unique terroir developed in harmony with
nature. The grapes from each vineyard ferment separately in individual tanks. In this way,
each individual base wine (of which there are more than 60) contributes its own character
to the final blend according to the specific conditions of the vineyard from which it came.
After a period of 12 months in French oak barrels, the base wines are selected and
blended according to 2 principal criteria - the elegant expression required by Ornellaia and
the character of vintage itself.
VÉRITÉ embodies the timeless traditions of France and the limitless possibilities of
California. With more than 50 "micro-crus" across four appellations of Sonoma, Vigneron
Pierre Seillan carefully crafts each blend of Vérité. This mosaic of micro-crus provides
Seillan with the palette of aromatics, flavors, textures and structural elements he needs to
craft the wines of Vérité. Each micro-cru is harvested and fermented separately, then aged
in French Oak barrels of various custom toasts. Seillan carefully tailors his winemaking
techniques and oak regimens to the personality of each lot, providing him with hundreds of
unique components he can use to create the architecture of the final blend. Profound and
sophisticated, LA MUSE delivers incredible depth and texture from a MERLOT based
blend.
Of course, blend recipes can only be used once. With each new vintage comes a new set
of conditions that changes the way a wine is made. Like this lot, the set of conditions that
brought it to auction may never come to fruition again.
Seize the moment! Bid until it's yours!
