What does A Celtic deity, the Roman poet Ovid, and a Scarecrow have in common?
JEFFREY & LAUREN FIELDMAN!
Steadfast friends of the Frankie Lemmon School, Jeffrey and Lauren's passion and love
for the school and its mission can only be matched with their enthusiastic outlook on life.
All smiles and laughter, the Fieldman's live and donate LARGE, assembling THREE (3)
MAGNUMS in recognition of TWFE's big 3-0!
OVID sits atop a growing region known colloquially as Pritchard Hill. OVID Napa Valley is
based on Cabernet Sauvignon, which established the voice of their property while
connecting it with the greater continuity of Napa Valley. Cabernet Franc, an independent
and contrasting voice, provides a perfect counterpoint. Small portions of Merlot and Petit
Verdot smooth edges and strengthen foundations. They coalesce to become a profound,
congruous wine, whose beauties and pleasures - not unlike an epic story - lie in its depth,
vitality, timelessness and complexity.
The SCARECROW story begins in a patch of earth with a fabled past, the J.J. Cohn
Estate, where Scarecrow grapes were born. J.J. Cohn planted eighty acres of Cabernet
vines on a 180-acre parcel and the rest is pretty much history. J.J. Cohn Estate grapes are
highly sought-after in part because Cohn bucked the trend, begun in the mid- 1960s, of
replacing vines planted on St. George rootstock with the supposedly superior AxR#I
hybrid. Over time, vines grafted onto this new stock proved highly vulnerable to phylloxera.
But by then, virtually all of the old St. George vines in Napa had been destroyed. Only the
original 1945 J.J. Cohn vines survived and these highly prized "Old Men" continue to
produce uncommonly rich fruit-the hallmark of Scarecrow wine.
CORRA is Celia Welch's personal endeavor. Grapes from three prime vineyards in three
of Napa Valley's premium growing regions, Oakville, Rutherford and Pritchard Hill,
combine to create the powerful yet elegant Cabernet Sauvignon. Recognize Celia's name?
She's consulting winemaker to some of Napa Valley's finest Cabernet Sauvignon estates!
