The year was 1933-FM Radio and stereo records were invented, Agatha Christie published The Hound of Death, 42nd Street was on the silver screen, Fred Astaire was on the airways crooning Night and Day, and, perhaps most transformative, prohibition was repealed with the passing of the 21st Amendment.
The year 1933 also marked Louise Futrell's founding of a modern independent school designed to provide a challenging curriculum within a caring environment to help students develop their full potential-an equally transformative moment for the community of Winston-Salem.
Over the last 90 years, Summit School has shepherded the educational, social, and character development of more than 5,000 graduates. It has progressively evolved its campus with its athletic facilities, interactive and engaging playgrounds, broadcasting resources, and expansive library, just to name a few.
2022-2023 marks the 90th Summit school year and we have reason to celebrate! How fitting that this year is a year for the Summit Gala-an opportunity to bring together those who value and appreciate all that the Summit has and continues to afford our children, our families, and the Winston-Salem community.
