Make a statement with Plate #2 from Chicago-based artist, Laura Collins' Plate Collection. As a survivor herself, Laura created this series to create discourse on the issue of domestic violence. PLEASE NOTE: This piece may be triggering. Please do what you need to keep yourself safe.
Laura Collins is a visual artist based in Chicago who recently obtained a Master of Fine Art in Painting + Drawing at the Art Institute of Chicago after previously earning a Master of Arts in New Media and a Graduate Certificate in Women & Gender Studies from DePaul University. Collins also holds a Bachelor of Fine and Applied Arts in Painting from the University of Illinois.
"I work in a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, and collage. I am interested in the mass circulation of both printed and digital imagery. My work opens a discourse on vulnerability, perceived confidence, and the objectification of women. I strive to humanize celebrities and create empathy through the exploitation of their candid faltering. My practice is an invitation to consider the absurdity of pageantry, a celebration of societal idolatry, and a beacon for popular culture fanatics."
