This year's Gala donations will go towards:
Art & Science:
Outdoor Playspace Mural & Flexcart Circuit Bench exhibit
This is not your luxury auction item packed with glitter and glam. This is a chance to step up, step in and be a part of making the Children's Museum even greater than it already is. The monies raised during tonight's ask will go towards two Museum projects: a new mural for our Outdoor Playspace and a new exhibit for the Discovery Room.
Outdoor Playspace Mural
We're looking to make the outside of the Museum as colorful and imaginative as its inside! And local artist Jacob Cullers is just the person to do it. Jacob will be painting a mural along the entire Outdoor Playspace wall. The under the sea-themed mural will feature a sunken pirate ship, variety of ocean wildlife and an interactive mural scavenger hunt.
About the Artist:
Jacob Cullers currently lives and works in New London, CT. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Fine Art with a Minor in Art History from the University of Hartford '15 and a Masters of Letters in Painting from the Glasgow School of Art '16 in Scotland, UK. Previous murals include the walls of the Niantic Public House.
FLEXCART Circuit Bench
Make it spin, sound and light up! Connect a maze of circuits to complete a connection with the device you want to power. No external power required. Visitors approach the Circuit Bench FLEXCART and select a combination of short and long steel bars. The bars are used to complete a circuit from a marked positive lead to a negative lead on one of the available electronics.
Visitors then crank the generator to provide low voltage power to operate the items. Explore different types of circuits, the amount of energy needed to power different items, and conductors vs. insulators. See how activating various components at once changes the effort required at the hand-crank.
