Up to 10 people can Join Christopher Hawthorne, Chief Design Officer for the City of Los Angeles and former architecture critic for the Los Angeles Times, on a lively and informative walking tour of Grand Avenue, which boasts as many architectural and cultural landmarks as any urban corridor in America. The tour will consider the complex history of Bunker Hill as well as prominent buildings by architects including Rafael Moneo (Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels), Wolf Prix (Ramón C. Cortines School of Visual and Performing Arts), Welton Becket (Music Center), Elizabeth Diller (Broad Museum), Arata Isozaki (Museum of Contemporary Art), and Frank Gehry (Walt Disney Concert Hall and tbe new mixed-use development The Grand L.A.). The tour will also consider the design of Grand Park and forthcoming changes to Bunker Hill, including an expansion of the Colburn School of Music (to a design by Gehry) and the Regional Connector subway station. It will conclude with lunch in Downtown Los Angeles.
