Melody Beattie once said, "gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow."
Through Rooted with Purpose, we ALL can show our gratitude to our Veterans by engaging Beattie's sentiments above; helping our Veterans make sense of their past sacrifices, bringing some peace in their present circumstances, and helping create a vision for their tomorrows, TODAY!
No act of generosity is too small to make a difference.
We welcome item donations!

Spirit of Discovery Park (SoDP) is HONORED to partnering with
the VA Hospital- St. Louis and St. Louis Community College Veterans Affairs Department
to offer an opportunity for YOU to give back to those who have given so much, OUR VETERANS.
Project: Rooted with Purpose
Focus Area: Aeroponic Vertical Gardens that will benefit veterans and our community by providing entrepreneurial and educational training as well as healthy food.
Summary: By providing Aeroponic Vertical Gardens for training through gardening, this opportunity will provide numerous therapeutic and mental health benefits such as stress relief, mental clarity and feeling of reward. The VA healthcare system has posted data that states, "veterans involved in gardening or horticultural therapy tend to have reduced inflammation, lower levels of stress hormones, and increased mental well-being." The produce from these gardens will go back to the college to provide health foods for those in need through our Student Advocacy and Resource Center (SARC). Most of the students in need may be part of the MO supplemental nutrition assistance program (SNAP).
Geographic Area Served: Veterans and students in need of nutrition in greater St. Louis. There are 4 main campuses: Florissant Valley, Wildwood, Meramec and Forest Park. We hope to have at least one at every campus.
Collaborative Outcomes/Collective Impact: This ongoing program will allow for student veterans to learn, experience, grow- hands on- and offer produce to other students from across the region. Our STLCC Veterans Club will lead a collaborative with SoDP to include the horticultural program and Campus Life teams on every campus. Our impact will feed those students in our STL community that live in food desserts or have a financial need, to have nutrient dense, sustainable foods.
Success Measures: We will have two measurements:
1- The impact this has on our veteran population growing and providing the produce.
2- The impact of the students receiving the healthy food grown from our gardens through surveys conducted through SARC.
Thank you for your support! ALL proceeds from the Towers-4-Troops are a tax-exempt organization under IRS code section 501c3; EIN 37-1824921.
