On August 28, 2020, my husband Richard George Broad died from pancreatic cancer leaving me, our daughter Katie, son Ben, and family members without his loving presence in our lives. It is my wish to remember Richard by celebrating his life through the creation of an educational scholarship at Watkinson. In 1979, we met as young teachers when Dick started teaching at Watkinson. Dick was always passionate about facilitating learning, sportsmanship, and emphasizing integrity in all decisions and behaviors. We want to honor his life by creating a scholarship for students to attend Watkinson, a place that means so much to us.

With the support of our family, we are proud to announce that we have created The Richard G. Broad Memorial Scholarship at Watkinson School. This award, to be given annually, will help students to attend Watkinson who demonstrate the characteristics Dick deemed of great importance: academic curiosity, kindness, sportsmanship and moral integrity.

Head of School Teri Schrader said, "It is wonderful to think of a student attending Watkinson through the legacy of Dick Broad, whose distinct presence and voice touched so many students throughout his tenure here. To commemorate his life through this scholarship recipient is profound for all of us at Watkinson."
