About CYDC
Founded in 1790, the Carolina Youth Development Center (CYDC) is an important part of Charleston' s historic and cultural heritage, a direct descendant of the Charleston Orphan House, America's first publicly funded orphanage.
Today, CYDC Serves more than 700 children and families each year through three main program areas:
- Our four residential foster care cottages are home to children from age 12 to 21 who are placed in our custody by SC Department of Social Services due to physical, sexual and emotional abuse, neglect or abandonment.
- Structured enrichment programs provide residents career education, life skills training, job readiness training, employment and other experiences under the guidance of full-time staff and mentors who provide social and academic support.
- The community-based prevention services team provides voluntary parenting classes, support services and case management to families identified as having sufficient risk factors that could result in harm to children and/or future potential emergency protective custody.
About HALO
HALO provides a comprehensive approach to exploring the world of opera. Through our school programs, historical walking tour, Opera 101 course, house concerts and large-scale productions, our goal is to invite everyone to experience opera in the way that is most comfortable for them.
Whether you're an artist or an audience member, an ambassador or an angel donor, an opera novice or aficionado, a tour guide or a technician, a comeyah or a beenyah, there is a place for you at HALO.
We're not just an opera company. We are a multi-faceted nonprofit arts organization that exists to serve our community. We are fueled by engagement, creativity, and civic pride.
