Explore the safe, comfortable, and extensive bicycle infrastructure of The Netherlands June 10 - 19, 2022. This tour is specifically designed for bicycle advocates, community leaders, municipal planners, street engineers, community developers, elected officials, and creative placemakers and will take travelers on a low-mileage, slow-riding bicycle journey to explore the well-designed streets of Delft, Utrecht, and Amsterdam. Multiple items available.

Highlights:

  • Explore the extensive urban bicycle infrastructure the Netherlands has to offer, via rented omafiets and opafiets (Classic Dutch grandma & grandpa bicycles) for slow group and solo rides.
  • For those who want to ride longer distances for recreation/exercise, solo or group rides in the mornings/evenings are possible with recommended routes.
  • Learn and experience transportation and cultural connections through 3 nights in Delft, 2 nights in Utrech, and 3 nights in Amsterdam.
  • Meet and talk with Dutch experts and changemakers in engineering, placemaking, politics, teaching, and community building surrounding mobility.
  • Explore the Anne Frank House, Van Gogh Museum, Dom Tower, Rijksmuseum, and the canals of Amsterdam on an evening canal cruise.
  • Experience via bicycle the Dafne Schippersbrug bridge, an Amsterdam bike barge, bike parking garages with 10s of thousands of bikes, bike tunnels, and much more.
  • Utilizing a bicycle touring model adapted from People for Bike's Effective Study Tours: Turning Inspiration Into Action and collaborating with a small network of professionals in the U.S. and the Netherlands, travelers will be empowered to bring about change.
  • Enjoy free time to explore urban parks, historical sites, tourist hot spots, delicious restaurants, and lots more via bicycle, tram, train, and on foot/wheels.

Tour Goals:

1) To immerse in bicycle infrastructure, learn the history on how the Dutch "got it done" and experience the culture of their public spaces.

2) Catalyze more rapid climate change mitigation and resiliance in the U.S.

Inclusions: Price includes all lodging (based on double occupancy, 4 star), all breakfasts, 5 group dinners and 3 group lunches, all group land transfers with train or tram, bicycle rentals, 1-3 tour guides (depending on group size), in-country cycle tour guides and field experts, group activities, traveler's guidebook and orientation, flight emissions offset.


Exclusions: Roundtrip airfare, extra activities, extra purchases (such as souvenirs, alcoholic beverages, snacks and meals not listed, and lodging sundries), local driver and guide tips, laundry services and travel insurance, country entry/exit fees. Currently, proof of COVID-19 vaccination or negative test required before departure from U.S.


Cancellation: Curbwise LLC reserves the right to cancel this tour due to force majeure ('Acts of God') or any other reasons beyond our control, such as pandemic travel restrictions or terrorism. We also reserve the right to cancel this tour if the minimum number of travelers (9) is not met. If this happens, you'll receive a full refund. Extra expenses incurred by you in preparing for the tour (e.g. non-refundable plane tickets, visa fees, gear, travel insurance, extra accommodations, or medical expenses) are not the responsibility of curbwise LLC.
