EVENT OVERVIEW

Come join us for the annual celebrated event in Scottsdale that is being held on Saturday, November 6th, 2021, at the Scottsdale Airport. On the podium will be Scottsdale Mayor David Ortega, who will provide Veterans Day comments. The honored guest will be Pearl Harbor Survivor, WWII Veteran and US Naval Aviator, Jack Holder.

WHY THIS EVENT MATTERS

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Thunderbird Field II Veterans Memorial, its scholarship program for Arizona college students interested in careers in various aspects of the aviation industry and Dogs4Vets, a service organization dedicated to enabling disabled veterans to live a more productive life through the use of service animals.

EVENT ENTERTAINMENT

The 1940s Theme Party will have several WWII vehicles and artifacts on display. Food will be served via "chow line" and 1940's style cocktails and music will be featured. To complement the mood and ambiance, attendees are encouraged to dress in 1940s attire.

The Venue - Starting with refreshments under the Stearman PT-17 at the Thunderbird Field II Memorial, 15000 N Airport Drive, the party will move upstairs into the Stearman & Thunderbird rooms. The event will celebrate all Veterans. After the somber POW-MIA ceremony carried-out by the Luke AFB Honor Guard, Jack Holder will take the stage and be followed by great music, food, a silent auction and a 2100hrs (9pm) surprise.

Steve Ziomek, Chairman of Thunderbird Field II Veterans Memorial Board, said, "The Swing Time Gala at the Scottsdale Airport will capture the mood and ambiance of an era known for Big Bands, Swing Dancing and Men and Women serving their country. Scottsdale was at the very heart of training Army Air Corp pilots for war and now has a true Veterans Memorial that the community as a whole can be proud of."

Thunderbird Field II, now the Scottsdale Airport, opened June 22, 1942, as an Army Air Corp training facility. Over 5,500 AAC pilots trained in the Stearman PT-17 aircraft. The Memorial itself, commemorates the rich history of the airfield and provides a tribute to all Veterans. A Stearman PT-17, the kind that flew at Thunderbird Field II in the 1940's, is the centerpiece of the Veterans Memorial.
