Vintage Native American heishi beaded necklace. The graduated beads are strung on thread, and include turquoise and other stones (black, coral, olive green) with thin shell beads interspersed in the center portion. Measures about 18" total length. Unsigned.
Heishe or heishi (pronounced "hee shee") are small disc- or tube-shaped beads made of organic shells or ground and polished stones. They predominantly come from the Kewa Pueblo people (formerly Santo Domingo Pueblo) of New Mexico, before the use of metals in jewelry by that people. The origins of this necklace are unknown.
This item can be shipped at a cost of $10.
