Meena Matai, 180 volunteers, fabric, ribbon, yarn mounted on board, 18" x 20" x 4"

Initiative 180 tells the story of the Circle C mask-making initiative. A group of 180 volunteers teamed up to sew and provide masks for free to the Austin community. The group produced 6500 masks that were distributed to 1500 people and over 100 organizations. The volunteers were primarily women. This piece uses 180 pieces of ribbon - one each for each volunteer that are tied together in a close knit crochet coming together to a team for a community grass routes effort to quickly come together and serve the need of the hour. The group raised $9300 and the majority of these funds were donated to the Central Texas food bank. This piece is a story of Women and Their Work for creating a safe and healthy community together.
