First We Surf Then We Eat -- Jim Kempton!

Jim will host a special dinner party for 6 at a date to be decided in December or January. This will be a 4-course meal and will include aperitifs, appetizers, a main course with accompaniment and a dessert, as well as wine pairings and after dinner drinks. It will also include a personally signed first edition of the book.


Local author, former Editor of Surfer magazine, award winning restaurateur and President of Oceanside's California Surf Museum, Jim Kempton has written First We Surf Then We Eat, a cookbook for the California surf lifestyle.


Based mostly on Kempton's own experiences, First We Surf Then We Eat is a travel, surf adventure cookbook, with 90 recipes in ten chapters -- each one a surf region -- Hawaii, Indonesia, France, Caribbean, Morocco, Peru, Mexico, California, South Pacific, and Central America. Each chapter has short stories about adventures, surf, restaurants and markets in the region followed by a recipe. It includes recipes from Dale Velzy, Bethany Hamilton, John John Florence, Rell Sunn, Donald Takayama, and other legendary surfers as well as a foreword by The Surfers Journal's Steve Pezman, plus photos by Jeff Divine, Art Brewer and Tom Servais.
