Morbihan and south Brittany

The Morbihan is a region in the south of Brittany which takes its name from the "Gulf of Morbihan". It is a small inland sea containing over 40 islands.

The huge number of menhirs (Long Stone) and dolmen (Stone Table) in this part of Brittany makes the region one of the most impressive megalithic sites in the world - said to more than match Stonehenge. Several inland villages and coastal towns and the general southern exposure of the region makes it one of France's most popular resort area, for both French and foreign tourists.

Plumelec is the closest village to the chateau.

It is a typical small French village with the church marking the center of the town surrounded by a number of small shops offering daily goods and services. Plumelec is known for being the location of the first death of operation Overlord (code name for the Battle of Normandy) on June 5, 1944. More recently, Plumelec is a mainstay of professional cycling races. Many prestigious cycling races, such as the Tour de France, the European, and French National Road Race Championships, retain Plumelec as a place of passage and arrival.
