ABOUT THE HONOREE

Donald Gelestino began his career in the elevator industry with DECO Elevator in 1986 as a helper. By 1989, he advanced to the role of mechanic, and from 1992 to 1993, he took on all supervising, troubleshooting, and engineering responsibilities.

In 1993, Mr. Gelestino founded Ver-Tech Elevator Co., Inc., where he served as President until 2010. Under his leadership, the company grew to employ over 125 individuals and managed the maintenance of more than 2,400 elevators. In 2010, Ver-Tech was sold to United Technologies Corporation.

From 2010 to 2013, Mr. Gelestino led the merger of Unitec and Ver-Tech within the UTC team. His role in the integration included overseeing real estate, headcount strategy, IT, HR, company culture, and the unification of maintenance and modernization processes.

In 2015, Mr. Gelestino founded Champion Elevator Corp., where he currently serves as CEO and President. Celebrating 38 years in the elevator industry, the Founder of Champion Elevator has dedicated the past three decades to working hard, being safe, fostering relationships, and providing products that are built to last.

Mr. Gelestino is also an influential leader in various organizations. He has been a member of the National Association of Elevator Contractors since 1996, serving as a Board Director from 2017 to 2019, and as President in 2020. In 2021, he received the prestigious William C. Sturgeon Award.

He also serves on the boards of Cross County Savings Bank, the Maurer Foundation for Breast Health (where he chairs the Golf Committee), and SUNY Old Westbury. Mr. Gelestino's dedication to supporting charitable causes has earned him recognition as an honoree from several 501(c)(3) organizations, reflecting his passion for making a positive impact on the community.
